Isaiah: A Prophet of Hope for Jews and Christians

An interdepartmental mini-conference sponsored by the Institute for the Arts and Humanities, with lectures on the book of Isaiah by Dr. Yaakov Ariel, (Associate Director, Carolina Center for Jewish Studies and UNC Professor of Religious Studies), Jason Robert Combs (Ph.D. Candidate, Ancient Mediterranean Religions) and a pre-concert talk by music faculty, composer of Isaiah, Stephen Anderson • 4:00–6:00 pm, Hyde Hall.  After the talks, light refreshments will be served.

AndersonSteveWebProfessor Anderson was commissioned to compose a new seven movement work for the UNC Carolina Choir (Susan Klebanow, Director), string orchestra, and piano that will be approximately 40 minutes in duration. As the title indicates, the text for “Isaiah” is based entirely on the writings of the Jewish prophet Isaiah. This piece will premiere on November 21st at 8pm in Hill Hall Auditorium, following the talks at Hyde Hall.
