The Carolina Center for Jewish Studies is condemning the racist and antisemitic messaging associated with the recent break-in at the Campus Y building. News of this hostile action was received during the first class session of this semester’s Confronting Antisemitism course, and gives us even more justification to continue to create and offer academic content that addresses antisemitism not only in our world’s history but also in current times and even on our own campus. Our faculty members are working with students and the Carolina community to offer support; please reach out to the Center via email at jewishstudies@unc.edu.

The office of the Campus Y, UNC’s longtime hub for student social justice activities, was vandalized last weekend, and antisemitic symbols and a racial epithet were left behind, according to administrators and campus police. UNC said a suspect has been identified and two warrants issued for that person’s arrest. Details.
