UNC Archaeological Excavation in Israel

The Huqoq Excavation Project, led by the Center’s Professor Jodi Magness, has made exciting discoveries for several dig seasons, garnering considerable media attention. Learn more.

We are very excited to get back into the field this coming summer (June 2022). The dig is offered to undergraduate students for academic credit (as CLAR 650) through UNC Study Abroad and offers 6 credits (for four weeks) as well as fulfilling the Experiential Education requirement. There are no prerequisites and no need for previous knowledge of or experience in archaeology, religion, etc. All students are welcome. Detailed information regarding the dig can be found on the UNC Study Abroad website.

* The Center does provide grant support for undergraduates going to Huqoq. Students must apply through the Study Abroad office if they are going on the dig through Study Abroad. Students that already went to Huqoq in a prior season can apply for a grant directly from the Center. Details. The Center is proud to be a sponsor of the Huqoq Excavation Project.
