Monday’s remote Confronting Antisemitism class hosted a panel featuring Rabbi Melissa Simon of UNC Hillel, Rabbi Zalman Bluming of Chabad of Durham and Chapel Hill, and Michael Figueroa, Associate Director of the Carolina Center for Jewish Studies. UNC Chancellor Kevin M. Guskiewicz listened in on the conversation and gave brief remarks about the university’s commitment to countering antisemitism and other forms of hate. The two Rabbis spoke about the kinds of antisemitism their organizations have faced, how they have worked with the university, and the work that can still be done to counter hate in the UNC community. Professor Figueroa spoke about the Carolina Center for Jewish Studies’ ongoing programming related to antisemitism and the need for honest, critical dialogue on topics related to this issue. The course is led by Max Lazar, graduate student, department of history. Learn More.
