Position Information 

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures is committed to research and teaching at all levels in German, Russian and several other Germanic, Central European, and Slavic languages, literatures and cultures. One of the most vibrant departments of its kind in the nation, GSLL is closely linked with interdisciplinary centers including the UNC Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies, and with the Carolina Center for Jewish Studies. We are also home to the Carolina-Duke Graduate Program in German Studies, one of the country’s leading graduate programs in German.
Position Summary
The Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures (http://gsll.unc.edu/) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor in East European Jewish Studies. The successful applicant will hold the working title of the Sarah and E. J. Evans Fellow, or Scholar.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Ph.D. in East European, Slavic, and/or Jewish Studies, or related field, is required; native or near-native competence in English and at least one East European language required.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The area of specialization is open; candidates with expertise in international Yiddish and related East European literature, culture, film, or other media are especially welcome to apply. We welcome applications from candidates whose work aligns with our departmental mission as outlined on our website. (https://gsll.unc.edu/about-gsll/) The position will involve active and ongoing participation in the Carolina Center for Jewish Studies. The successful candidate will maintain an active research program, teach a range of courses in East European Studies, and perform service for the department.
