Lunch Seminar: David Biale

January 22, 2019 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

David Biale will be coming to UNC as this year’s graduate student speaker for the Carolina Center for Jewish Studies. Professor Biale has been at the forefront of Jewish Studies since the end of the 1970s and has written a number of works that look at Jewish history from the biblical period to the present day. He also was an early proponent of integrating elements of cultural studies into Jewish Studies.

Professor Biale will be hosting a lunchtime seminar for graduate students from
12:30-2:00PM on Tuesday, January 22nd in Pettigrew Hall.

Pre-registration is required.

He will lead a discussion of an autobiographical essay on his academic career. This should serve as an excellent starting point for a broader conversation on collaborative work as well as the past, present, and future of Jewish studies. UNC graduate students and faculty are invited to attend this lunch but do need to RSVP in advance.

Professor Biale is also giving an academic talk this same day, which is open to the general public as well as the campus community, and having a private dinner with UNC graduate students. Contact us for details at jewishstudies@unc.edu
